EXHAUST BRAKE FAILURE ON THE B27 NEAR TÜBINGEN – TRUCK EMERGENCY AT NIGHT
In April 2026, around 03:10 AM, a Romanian truck driver called our 24/7 hotline after a serious breakdown on the A99 near Tübingen, close to the Tübingen-West interchange.
The exhaust brake (engine retarder) failed completely on a steep downgrade — the driver was forced to rely solely on service brakes, which began to overheat rapidly. After pulling over safely, inspection revealed a broken exhaust flap actuator and severely heat-stressed brake pads. The flatbed truck heading from Stuttgart toward Freiburg could not safely continue.
We handled communication in Bulgarian. The driver received a fixed-price quote for towing and workshop transport. After payment confirmation, a heavy-duty recovery vehicle was dispatched right away.
Our crew arrived in about 40 minutes. On-site diagnosis: overheated engine, failed transmission control unit, locked drivetrain, CAN bus fault.
