ENGINE OVERHEATING ON THE A3 NEAR METTMANN – TRUCK EMERGENCY IN THE AFTERNOON
In April 2026, around 03:10 AM, a Romanian truck driver called our 24/7 hotline after a serious breakdown on the A99 near Mettmann, close to the Mettmann-West interchange.
The engine temperature climbed into the red zone while climbing the Bergisches Land gradient — steam began venting from the overflow tank and the coolant warning light came on. A container truck heading from Cologne toward Dusseldorf moved to the hard shoulder as soon as safe. With the engine fan clutch seized and coolant boiling, driving any further would have caused severe cylinder head damage.
