Blown Tire on the A7 near Neu-Ulm-Haar
A DAF XF 530 pulling a fully loaded Schmitz curtainsider was parked at the Neu Ulm motorway rest area off the A7 after a long overnight run from Stuttgart. During the pre-departure walk-around, the driver noticed the inner tyre of the dual on the trailer second axle was completely flat. The outer tyre had masked the failure during driving: a classic dual-tyre trap where the outer continues to carry load while the inner runs down to zero. LKWHelp24 was called at 05:50. The mobile unit arrived from the direction of Guenzburg in just under 50 minutes. The inner tyre had suffered a full pressure loss from a bead seal failure: the tyre had separated from the rim bead on one side, likely from a previous overload event. The casing itself was deformed from running flat, making repair out of the question. The dual assembly was broken apart, the inner wheel removed, a new 385/65 R22.5 inner trailer tyre fitted and torqued to Schmitz axle specification. The outer tyre was also inspected: no damage found, but the bead area was cleaned and reseated correctly as a precaution. Both wheels were remounted, all trailer axle pressures set, and the driver completed the walk-around checklist before departing for Ehingen. Total time from call to departure was 85 minutes. Neu Ulm sits where the A7 and A8 intersect in Bavaria, an important node for freight serving Ulm, Goeppingen, and the eastern Baden-Württemberg belt.
