A Renault T 460 on a cross-border run from the Czech Republic entered Germany via the Bad Schandau crossing on the B172 when a border inspection officer flagged the nearside front steer tyre for tread depth below the legal minimum. The driver was advised not to proceed onto the A17 toward Dresden without replacing the tyre first. The call reached LKWHelp24 at 13:10 on a Thursday. Our technician drove out from the A17 corridor and reached the Bad Schandau entry point in just over 50 minutes. The tyre was visibly below 1.6 mm across a wide centre section, consistent with a heavily laden steer axle on a long eastern European run. A 315/80 R22.5 steer tyre from van stock was fitted on site, directly at the border area. The worn tyre showed no puncture or valve fault, simply wear pushed beyond the legal limit. The Bad Schandau border point on the Saxony side sees frequent tyre checks, particularly on vehicles arriving from Czech and Polish corridors, so drivers are advised to inspect steer axle tread before reaching the crossing rather than discovering the problem at the inspection. After fitting and torquing, the border officer confirmed the new tyre met requirements. The Renault T cleared the checkpoint and joined the A17 toward Pirna and onward to Dresden within the hour, recovering the lost time without a depot tow.
Worn steer tyre flagged at the Bad Schandau border check. LKWHelp24 sorted it on site so we could clear the checkpoint and continue to Dresden. Renault T, fast work.
