From the Field
A MAN TGX hauling automotive parts from Magdeburg to Erfurt had barely cleared the Bernburg interchange on the A14 when the offside steer tyre failed with a sharp crack. The truck shuddered to a stop on the hard shoulder, the tyre shredded down to the bead on that corner. The driver called LKWHelp24 at 04:18. The mobile service van came via the B6 link road and reached the A14 southbound breakdown in 36 minutes. Working under LED floodlights with cones set well back, the technician confirmed the 315/70 R22.5 steer tyre had split across the full tread width, the inner sidewall torn. A direct replacement was the only option. The front axle was raised on rated stands, the wheel stripped, and a new commercial steer tyre from van stock mounted and torqued to the MAN factory figure. Valve seating and bead were checked before the truck was lowered and a short function test completed. By 06:05 the MAN was rolling south on the A14 again toward Halle Saale. Total standstill time came to just under two hours, keeping the load inside its morning delivery window. For a booking tight on time, that margin made the difference between an on-time arrival and a costly penalty.
