A DAF XF 480 pulling a general-cargo tautliner came off the A23 at Pinneberg-Süd in Schleswig-Holstein on a Friday morning after the dashboard showed a persistent TPMS warning on the front left steer axle. The driver had driven cautiously from the Hamburg direction, knowing that a steer-axle issue demands prompt action. At the lay-by he found the tyre had lost roughly a third of its inflation, not yet flat but dangerously low for motorway use. LKWHelp24 was called and a mobile unit arrived in thirty-five minutes, a quick run from the Elmshorn area. The technician examined the tyre and found two issues: a nail near the centre of the tread and a leaking valve core that had likely been the primary pressure loss point. The valve core was replaced first, then the nail entry assessed: it was within the repairable zone, central and below 6 mm. A plug-and-patch combination was applied internally, the tyre inflated to 8.5 bar and load-tested on the spot before the wheel was refitted.
