Blown Tire on the A96 near Ravensburg-Haar
A Volvo FH 460 running with a Krone curtainsider was on the A96 eastbound near Ravensburg in Baden-Württemberg when the driver spotted a warning lamp and felt a change in the trailer's handling at speed. He brought the combination down to a safe speed and reached the emergency lane near the Weingarten junction. The right-side front axle tyre on the Krone trailer had taken a deep sidewall cut from road debris, and the pressure had escaped so rapidly that the sidewall had partially collapsed before the driver noticed the handling change. LKWHelp24 was contacted and a service van reached the scene in approximately fifty minutes, travelling from the Wangen im Allgäu direction. Sidewall damage of this depth leaves no repair option: the structural layers are compromised and the tyre cannot be made safe again. The wheel was removed from the trailer axle, the damaged tyre discarded, and a new 385/65 R22.5 trailer tyre was mounted, inflated and checked for runout before refitting. While the technician completed the paperwork, the driver walked around the remaining trailer wheels and checked pressures. Ravensburg is an Upper Swabian city close to Lake Constance, and the A96 is its main motorway connection, reaching toward Lindau and the Austrian border to the east and toward Memmingen and Munich to the west. Friedrichshafen and Wangen im Allgäu are within easy distance. The Krone was back in traffic within seventy minutes of the first call.
