Blown Tire on the A4 near Jena-Haar
A MAN TGX pulling a curtainsider rolled into the rest area near the Jena-Göschwitz junction on the A4 with a steer tyre going soft fast. The driver had spotted the pressure warning climbing on the dash and pulled off before the casing overheated. Smart move, because a steer tyre that runs flat on the A4 climbs out of Jena puts everyone at risk. We took the call at half five in the morning. The valley around Jena funnels the motorway between steep hills, so the A4 there carries heavy freight heading toward Erfurt one way and Gera the other, and that early stretch fills up fast. We wanted the rig back on its way before that wall of traffic arrived. The tyre had picked up a long screw near the shoulder, too close to the edge to plug safely. On a steer position we do not gamble, so it was a clean replacement. Correct 385/65 R22.5 off the van, torqued to spec, balanced on site so the wheel ran smooth at speed. Forty minutes start to finish. The driver made his Weimar window and pushed on toward Apolda and Naumburg without a second thought.
